Projects

So you may remember the vintage picnic basket I salvaged from the attic:

Inside is marked Wov-N-Wood by Jerywil.  The most information I can find is that it might have been made anywhere between 1940 and the 1960's.  I've been trying to think of a great purpose for this thing that I've fallen head over heels for.  Right now it's sitting on my kitchen countertop, holding all the various and sundry plastic ware that had overtaken my cabinets:  all those cute little containers for holding raisins and cookies for the kid's lunches, but I think it may have a greater purpose.  I just haven't narrowed it down yet.

These are a few of the really cool pics I found online, of things crafty people have done to their old picnic baskets.  So many choices....only one basket:)

This Chalk Board Basket from the folks over at Thrift Core speaks to me:

Pretty darn nifty, I think.  She made that herself.  Isn't it awesome?

Or How about this from Heaven's Walk

Isn't it just?  I could even find a little decorative embellishment to glue on the front:)

FirstHomeDreams had this idea, to which I can totally relate:

She used her old, never-used-for-a-real-picnic-basket for bathroom storage!  I love it!

The possibilities are endless!  I can't wait til I find just the perfect use for my Jerywil.  Pics to follow, of course:)

Miracle of miracles, I actually finished a project. We're not going to talk about how long it took me to get going, but the Jerywil picnic basket is complete -- well mostly.

The reveal...drumroll please:

My BFF gave me the friendship plaque years ago. It's been displayed in my kitchen because it exactly matches the yellow paint I used on the backsplash.
I used a foam brush and three coats of the same yellow paint on the top of the basket. There are still a few details to work out -- some paint touch-ups on the edges and I haven't actually attached the tile yet. I'm thinking Liquid Nails should do the trick.
And though I tried and tried to find a different purpose for this beautiful old thing, alas..it lends itself too well to plastic storage. I use these all the time, so keeping them on the counter top is tots convenient. Yes, I used the word tots.
I blame Disney Channel.
Ta da!

My next order of business is finding a solution for the spiderweb of charge cables that litter my kitchen counter top. Not cool. Not cool at all.
